First United Methodist Church

Dalton First United Methodist Church was founded in 1847. The first
building was a small frame church built in 1851 for $500. After the Civil
War a brick structure with a bell tower was built. The present facility on
Thornton Avenue was completed in 1951. There are currently around 2,000
members.

The first known organ was Moller Op. 6559, a two-manual installed in 1938.
It served the church until the new facility was built. It is not known what
organ was first used in the new sanctuary, but there was a 3-manual Allen
being used when the Austin was installed in the colonial room in 1982.
