Broad Street United Methodist Church
The church was organized as Lea Street Methodist Episcopal Church in the
late 1800s, with the present Akron-plan sanctuary built before the turn of
the century.
The first known organ was Pilcher Op. 473 installed in 1904, a 2-manual
13-stop tracker. It was rebuilt by Pilcher in 1942 as their Op. 1966 at a
cost of $3537. It was replaced in 1973 by the Schantz.
The room is wider than it is long – and the Schantz is functionally
installed across the front behind and slightly above the choirloft. The
Swell is divided to each side because of the tight space. The 16′ Posaune
in the Pedal was replaced by Phil Parkey & Associates in 2000.
